Where The Wild Things Are

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak is a children's picture book originally written in 1963 and published by Harper & Row. The book is about the imaginary adventures of a young boy named Max, who is punished for making mischief by being sent to his room without supper. Max wears a distinctive wolf suit during his adventures and encounters various mythical creatures, the wild things. Although just ten sentences long, the book is generally regarded as a classic of American illustrated children's literature.
Spike Jonze is in charge of bringing this childhood classic to life.
The cast includes Catherine Keener, Max Records, James Gandolfini, Angus Sampson, Forest Whitaker, Lauren Ambrose, Catherine O'Hara and Paul Dano.

I loved this story as a child and cannot wait to see it through the eyes of the visionary director.

Wicked!

Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, is a parallel novel published in 1995, written by Gregory Maguire. Based upon the writings of L. Frank Baum, it is a revisionist look at the land and characters of Oz, best known from Baum's 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.

The novel is a political, social, and ethical commentary on what good and evil really are. It takes place in The Land of Oz, in the years leading to Dorothy's arrival. The story centers on Elphaba, the misunderstood green-skinned girl who grows up to become the notorious Wicked Witch of the West.

I read this book last summer and absolutely adored it!
It's got all that fantastic and magical elements that we loved as children, combined with everything needed to tingle an adult's fancy.

Who could have known that one day, you could come to love the Wicked Witch of the West.

Tales Of The Unexpected

One of my all time favorite books.

Roald Dahl filled my childhood with so many wonderful stories, I was so glad to continue loving him as I grew up.

(Though that doesn't mean that from time to time I don't enjoy revisiting my childhood classics...)

The Lorax

is a children's book, written by Dr.Seuss, first published in 1971.

It chronicles the plight of the environment and the Lorax, a mossy bossy man-like creature, who speaks for the trees against the greedy Once-ler. 

The book is commonly recognized as a fable concerning industrialized society, using personification to give life to industry as the Once-ler, whose face is never shown, and to the environment as the Lorax. 

One of my favorit Dr. Seuss stories.

The Art of Color

Johannes Itten was a teacher at the Bauhaus in the early twenties. He is known for is work on color theory.
Itten's approach to color theory was revolutionary because he looked at color not only in terms of the physics of how light is absorbed or reflected by matter, and not only in terms of how one color looks when situated beside another.
Itten also looked at how color affects a person psychology and spiritually. 

He believed that there were certain characteristics inherent in particular colors that would have a direct influence on how the viewer felt.

Great book.
